Limerick Open

The beautiful bank holiday weather did not manage to deter some Galway players taking part in the Limerick Open.

In the open section Denis Ruchko took home 4/6 points finishing 5th overall including a draw against FM Henry Li. Andrejs Kozlovs finished with 3/6 points and Andrew Finnerty finished with 2.5/6 points performing above his rating against a tough draw.

In the U1400 section the star performer was Ian Finnerty also finishing 5th overall on 4/6 points and winning a grading prize. James Blackwell finished on 3.5/6 points with the only highlight winning an interesting Knight & Queen v Bishop & Queen endgame.
There were also a large contingent of Galway Juniors competing well in the Open and U1400 sections.

I would also like to congratulate John Cassidy and the other tournament organisers on an exceptionally well run events.
The next events are Kilkenny Congress in November and Bunratty in February for anyone interested in some weekend competition.
