Galway Rapidplay results
A total of 48 players took part in the Galway Rapidplay on 14 June, nearly twice as many as last year. Reigning Irish Champion Colm Daly and the previous ICU Chairperson Jonathan O’Connor ran away from the rest of the field; each of them won every one of their games except when they drew with each other in round 5, so they came first equal on 8½ points out of a possible 9. These were truly outstanding performances by each of them. Top seed and last year’s champion Yury Rotchev came outright third, with 6½ points, a full two points behind the winners.
Other prize winners were:
Grading prize (1400-1800): Kevin O’Flaherty, 6 points
Grading prize (under 1400): John Hensey, 5½
First Junior prize: Fiachra Scallon: 5½
Second Junior prize: Oissine Murphy: 5
