Congress: About

Information regarding the Galway Chess Congress, past and present, can be accessed from this page.

The Galway Chess Congress is one of the four main annual weekenders in Ireland. For many years we have been hosting the event in one of the leading hotels in Galway.  It was originally held in early to mid-October, but we then moved to a mid-Spring date.  The most recent Congress was held from March 11th to 13th 2022 in the Menlo Park Hotel.  In 2020 the competition was scheduled to take place from March 20th to 22nd, but had to be cancelled at the last minute because of the coronavirus pandemic, and in 2021 the pandemic was still raging and the Congress had to be held online (full results, and also links to all the games, are here).

The reigning champion is Richard Zienert.

Full results of the most recent congresses are available here:

      Hi James,

Apologies for the delay. The club is due to start up in October – probably on the 10th, but I’ve added you to the mailing list so you will get an email to confirm closer to the date. Failing that, you can usually find us in Monroe’s Tavern of a Tuesday evening. Send us an email if you have any further questions.

      Best,

      Fintan
