August Blitz Results
The August Blitz, held on Thursday 31 August, saw a hard-fought and close contest. There were three players tied for first place going into the last round; they had all already played each other, and so each was paired against someone in the following group. Of the three leaders, only Brendan Buckley and David McCann won, finishing on 5½ out of 7, and so they are the joint champions for August. Brendan is of course a club regular, but David was playing in his first Galway blitz for several years; he has moved back to Galway, and so we look forward to seeing him at many more of our events. The rating prize was won by Maksym Ruchko, on 3½ points – for once it was Maksym, and not his son Denis who was in the prizes. (Denis was third on 5 points, but we don’t give a third prize, unfortunately.)
